Magic Underwear
On the way home on Saturday one of the carpool girls announced that she had heard about garments and just had to know more. So I gave her the standard they're symbolic reminders of promises you make in the temple. I guess that just isn't exciting enough for people or something, because there was a pause, and then she said that she needed to know more about them. I told her that there's not much else to tell, of course she's heard the whole "magic underwear" stuff and so I think she was pretty much convinced that I was holding out on her. She told me that she needs to know more about Mormons so she was going home to look up some stuff online. I did write down the church website for her, and told her they could give her a nice accurate overview of our beliefs. I got home and Lynn reassured me that the church website will not be sensational enough for her, and that she will probably still go do a google search for some crazy stories about g's. It never ceases to amuse me the apparent need some people have to be shocked by Mormons, and the disappointment they express when the doctrines aren't quite as sensational as they had hoped.

Eeeek!! Seriously, she did? Why am I surprised. I SO did my best to tell her they were simply "reminders of faith" that we wore, nothing magic. (but umm...a certain other Utahn in the class was FULL of crazy stories) I'll explain the whole conversation when I see you today.
(and yes, I found your blog. I'll tell you what I searched for at class, but it wasn't pretty -- I knew you'd been blogging about the class, so I was all typing "Julia, rape, San Diego" or something!!! What has this class done to us!?
