Inmates and Ring Shopping

When I signed up for this thing in San Diego there were a few details that I wasn't really clear on, and now I am. One of those being that on occasion I will be asked to sit through a forensic exam with a man. I gather that it's usually a gay man, but not always. Sometimes the man is a prison inmate. I had some safety concerns, but I have been reassured that the inmate exams take place in a hospital, the inmate remains cuffed the entire time, and a prison guard will also be in the room. They claim safety has never been an issue.

The very last day of training we received some additional instructions on dealing with inmates. The first thing that was brought up was that these men don't have any real interaction with women, and they're going to hit on us. I don't think my mind can really quite grasp what that must be like to be hit on by a prison inmate, while he's in the middle of a forensic exam following a sexual assault, with a nurse and a prison guard as an audience. Could anything be more awkward? Nothing comes to mind.

Although I have serious doubts as to whether this will completely resolve the issue, I figure that at least if I appear to be married it will be more discouraging. So I'm currently in the market for a fake ring. I figure why not, under the aforementioned circumstances it certainly can't hurt. So I'm off to Target tonight to check out their selection, and if nothing strikes my fancy I'll buy one I've located online that looks real enough.
