Tonight proved to be interesting. I got home from work kind of late, and my roommate Betsy was in the living room watching tv. She told me that the 18 year old's friend who is sharing a room had shown up earlier that day. I asked how that was going, and I could tell that she wasn't happy about it, even though she said it was fine. She mentioned that they had gone to Big Lots to pick up a few things for their bedroom.
The other roommate, the cat girl (cat has still not arrived) came downstairs a few minutes later and announced that she was going to Big Lots to get some things. The 18 year old and her friend (this new roommate has yet to introduce herself, so I have no idea what her name is.) came in and started putting away a bunch of stuff from Big Lots, before they left again. The cat roommate came home and Betsy mentioned that the 18 year old had said that they had bumped into each other at Big Lots. At which point the cat roommate asked "oh really, did she also tell you that she stole all that stuff from Big Lots?" At first I thought she was kidding, but she looked so disgusted that after a second I realized that she was being very serious. The cat roommate informed us that the 18 year old and friend had taken their stuff up to the register, but no one was at the register they had approached (they're not terribly bright), so they stood there for a minute, and one of them shouted "Hello! Is anyone going to help us?" Which attracted the attention of the cat roommate. She turned around in time to see them grab their items and race out the front door laughing.
After that little story Betsy has vowed to move out because she can't live with a thief, and the cat roommate said that if she gets the job she interviewed for today, that she will also want to move asap. So we will decide in the next few days whether or not we want to put in 30 days notice and dissolve the household, or if we're going to replace our spots with people from Craig's list and abandon ship. In the meantime I believe that found a replacement from Craig's list, but I have not secured a place to move to. So I made a frantic call to the housing coordinator, and hopefully something will crop up between now and the end of the month...otherwise I'm going to be homeless. I pay my tithing, I'm banking on blessings, so for now I'm not too worried about it. I am however going upstairs right now to figure out where I can hide all my jewelry and small valuables.
