The Resume

For someone who writes for a living, you'd think I could at least write my own resume. I spent a few hours working at it, but I could kind of tell I was in a rut, so I had Steve take a look at it. He suggested some minor changes and sent it back.

Today I had a meeting with my boss, and we had a lengthy discussion about our job security, now that the buyout is complete. Neither of us believe that our positions will survive long term, but there's no need to panic right now. My boss whipped out a few printouts of jobs that she's located online. She's considered applying for a few of them, but says she's not ready to bite the bullet quite yet. This job is only 5 miles from her home, and she's not looking forward to a commute.

The jobs she showed me were actually with my former employer, and my interest in working for those people again is pretty limited. So I declined her offer to take the printouts with me. She said that she likes to hang on to them even when she's not interested in applying, because they can come in handy when she's working on her resume. I mentioned something about my resume being a bit of a challenge and my boss said "Well if you'd like, I'd be happy to help you out. You're more than welcome to email it to me, and I'll see if I have any suggestions. I help people with their resumes all the time." So I figured why not. I emailed it over to her, and this is the response she sent back: "I think we can use a different layout….I would probably 'beef up' the bullets….Let me play with it…."

It's kind of nice having a boss that takes me to lunch, let's me come into work at 10am when there's nothing to do, and is now working on my resume for me. This is actually making me stop and wonder if I should be so quick to leave.
