Grammar

I don't pretend to have perfect grammar, but I think I do okay. Although, my boss does tell me that she's never been able to figure out what methods I'm using to determine where a comma should be placed. That makes two of us. I think my spelling is up to snuff for the most part, but not perfect. That's my disclaimer before I make fun of some comments posted in response to an article in the Deseret News. The weird thing is that comments under other articles are comparatively well-written. The article in question is about a 29 year old teacher (female) in Hurricane, who just pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a minor (her student).

1. "I hope this is not going to be one of those cases that end forgotten and even making believe that the victim is not a victim."

2. "I'm wondering if kids are even safe going to school? Especially when predictors can get a degree and teach."

3. "Parents, keep your kids on track by teaching them to live and obey the gospel of Jesus Christ and you will fortify them against advances made by preditors and adults with loose morals of which there are a lot out there. Take them to church! Do your family home evenings. Pray with them daily. Show some obedience and set an example. We are living in the Last Days!!!!!!!!!"

4. "Teachers need to be handle to a high standard. And watch, she will get off with little to no accountablity."

5. "Example I recall the play Jesus Christ Super Star being profiled as the work of Satan...yet still or now appears downtown..."

6. "...Then you miss that in with someone in a position of trust who wants to speed up that cycle of maturation then you have problems because niether has the equipment to deal with it. And I do watch my children and question openly an administration which at first was relunctant but now gives me my due as a father, parent as I have invested my time and effort. I play it how I wanted to be treated at each stage of the growing up period."

Aside from the obvious errors, part of what amuses me about number one is the logic at play here. Is this individual hoping that we will all continue to dwell on this particular case for years to come?

Numbers two and three revealed to me that "predator" is a more difficult word to spell than I would have previously suspected.

Number three is a favorite because I love the unsolicited sermon.

The entertainment provided by number four should be self-explanatory.

Numbers five and six are actually snippets from the same post. In number five I was able to decipher what the man was trying to say. I'm not sure I had the same luck with number six.

I initially wondered why these posts were all found in response to this one particular article. I figure that it's either because this is an emotional issue that gets people worked up into a frenzy, so that they're not thinking straight when they compose the posts, or because it's about a teacher in Hurricane, Utah. You can draw your own conclusions, as for me, I love Southern Utah!

I'm sure you have already noticed that I too have the comma problem.

It's because the posters were Hurricane locals, I'm sure. Good stuff.
