A happy birthday to me

Lynn and I talked about what we were going to do for my birthday this weekend. It was the 30th, so it seemed like it wouldn't be fitting to do nothing. We toyed with a lot of different ideas, and had decided to have me spend the night at her house on Friday and then we would go to Seaworld in San Diego the next morning. I think around 1am we decided that we didn't really want to go to Seaworld after all. Sleeping in sounded a lot better, so we went that route instead. We woke up late and somewhere in the middle of trying to decide what to do, Lynn suggested that we go stand in line for the new iphone, purchase one for me as my birthday gift. Hard to turn down an offer like that. We dinked around a bit, ran an errand, checked out the line at the Spectrum, went to lunch, and finally wound up in line at South Coast a little before 4pm. Which turned out to be very fortuitous since they closed the line right at 4pm. After four hours in line we finally got a phone.

Standing in line really wasn't so bad. Some of the people around us were quite chatty. A little before 8pm some woman came up and tried to get in line. When the security guard told her that the line had closed at 4pm, she turned to all of us and demanded to know if we had really all been in line since 4pm. A few people actually bothered to respond that we had. That's when she sneered at us "why would you do that?" The guy right behind us responded with a totally straight face "because I'm stupid." It was pretty hilarious. The last half hour or so in line they closed the store to all customers that were not purchasing iphones. Some guy came hustling up to the store and the manager standing out front apologized and told him that the store was closed to general customers. The guy was very effeminate, and very worked up. He didn't miss a beat and immediately responded with "well then can I speak with the manager?" The manager told him that she was in fact the manager, and he fired back "can I speak with you?" I was really looking forward to seeing the rest of that exchange, but that's right about the point that our service person showed up and let us in the store to get our phones.

Once we had the phones we met up with Ricky for dinner. We beat him to the restaurant, and being the nerds that we are, we sat in the car not saying anything, just listening to the radio, and the little clicking noises of the phone. It may be the coolest little toy I've ever had. It's amazing the things this little phone will do. I'm listening to the radio on it right now. I think that by the end of the evening Ricky felt a little like taking it away and breaking it.
