The Zoo

My youngest brother Neal is in town this week I took Monday and Tuesday off of work to spend time with him. Monday we went to the San Diego zoo. I was going to bring my camera, but I forgot it, so I only have a few pictures of the elephants that I snapped with my phone. I really have no idea what that elephant was doing. He would stick his trunk over the edge and gather up a little mound of dirt with it, and then grab as much of the dirt heap as he could with his trunk and drag it back over the side of the ditch thing. I couldn't tell what happened to it after that.

Anyhow, aside from the elephants, something I couldn't help but notice was that many times the animals seemed to be better behaved than the people who were shoving and pushing at each other to get a better view. If there was a particularly interesting animal that had dared to venture close to the perimeter of it's area, it became an every man for himself kind of situation. I wonder if I missed some instructions at the opening gate that read "don't worry about being considerate, do whatever you have to in order to get the best view possible, just pretend that these other people don't exist." We've all been in one of those crowds, I doubt that I need to elaborate.

The zoo really was pretty great, despite the crowds. I bought my annual pass, so I guess now I can go back anytime I find myself in San Diego.
