Othello

I don't think of myself as the sort of person that has an anger issue or anything, but when I was younger I could not play Othello without wanting to hit my opponent. There was something really infuriating about sitting there and while the other person flipped over all of my little dots and claimed ownership of the square. I should have remembered that Othello gives me boardgame rage, but I had forgotten.

A week or so ago I downloaded Othello onto my iphone, and after playing it a few times I was really congratulating myself on my complete dominance over the little program. I played the game until beating it started to bore me. Then last night I found another version and downloaded that one. After losing to the new version five or six times in a row I rememberd why I don't play that game anymore. I started to feel completely overwhelmed, and even went so far as to think privately to myself "I'm sure this thing is cheating, and that square was not one of the ones that it should have flipped."

I am getting better though. I would say that on the easy and medium levels I win more times than I lose, and on the hard level I win maybe 35% of the time. Still, a few times now I've had to put the phone down a take a little break before I do something I might regret.

There are simple logic strategies that can help you smash the computer every time. Watch the periphery pieces away from the computers last move.
