When we were in high school, my older brother used to do asinine things behind the wheel of the car on the way home from school. On one such occasion it was snowing, he started the car and then asked me "hey Julie, do you dare me to drive all the way home without using the windshield wipers." I think I said "no," which didn't stop him from driving home without using them. It was only a couple of miles to the house, but it was snowing pretty hard, and he was leaning clear forward over the steering wheel squinting for a good portion of the drive.
Today I was driving to work, and it was pouring rain. I decided to see if I could drive to and from work without using my wipers. Just to liven up the commute. It definitely made things more interesting. Driving the 405 in a downpour without wipers wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, but then again, I had wondered if I would be able to see anything at all. It did occur to me that this might be a really bad idea, I shouldn't risk getting pulled over since I already have an unpaid parking ticket, and my car registration expired a couple of months ago. I wasn't really all that worried about getting pulled over though. I made it home without incident, and without using my windshield wipers, and now I can't, for the life of me figure out what possessed me to do such a thing.
