We saw the most interesting thing go down in a neighboring campsite. This young couple with Nevada plates on the car arrived at the campsite early Sunday morning. They returned to the campsite in their car later that evening. They didn't get out of the car though, they just sat there in the car chatting. We weren't really paying a lot of attention to them. At this point in time they hadn't really done anything too interesting. So we sort of wandered off and none of us paid any attention to what was happening over there. Then Shaine and I were sitting at the picnic table, with our backs to this neighboring campsite when it seemed like I heard the guy saying to the girl "you say you're a tomboy and you like to go hiking with the boys, but now you're pulling this..." I looked over there and couldn't see anyone around. He appeared to be taking down the tent and talking to himself. He was obviously ticked off and trying to do his best to keep his voice down, so it was really weird. I have to admit, I was staring. Totally staring. That's when I spotted the girlfriend. She was laying in the tent that he was taking down. She was responding, but I couldn't hear what she was saying. It did appear that she was laying in the tent in some sort of passive protest to keep him from taking it down. He continued to take it down, and he told her to get up. So she got in the car, and reclined the seat all the way back while he continued to gather up their camping gear. Then they left.
The campsite thing said that he had it reserved for three days, so this seemed exceptionally odd. We sat around for hours speculating what had just gone down. I think that we all agreed that the girlfriend had been whining at him about something. It could have been the heat, it was unbelievably hot, but they are from Nevada. I think she must have whined at him about a hike he took her on. Perhaps his camping food wasn't up to snuff for her. Whatever the issue was it did seem to be resolved sometime in the next few hours. They suddenly showed back up at the campsite, and set everything back up at light speed. They were in their tent watching a movie on the laptop, and everything seemed to be fine.
Whatever it was I have to say I'm pretty impressed with her ability to get out of that one. He left mad, and I figured it was the end of the relationship for sure. Anyway, just one of the many joys of camping. It's like having a camera in everyone's living room.
