Tonight's class was about sexual assault of adolescents, and stalkers. The first part of the class was a little disturbing. There was a lot of talk about manipulative high school relationships, statutory rape, etc. The pictures of 15 year old mothers who had been killed by their boyfriends was, well...it's disturbing. There's not much else to say about it. We also watched a little video interviewing a 16 year old kid who punches his girlfriend, but it's for her own good because she did something to irritate him. I thought the feminist was going to come completely unglued. She said she had to leave the room for a bit to calm down.
After that a woman who works for the DA's office, specifically with victims of stalkers came in to give a presentation on stalkers. She went down a list of all the crazy things stalkers do. The girl with a million questions raised her hand and confessed to the entire class that she's done a lot of the things on that list, and wanted to know at what point a person crosses over into official stalker territory. I felt like I was back in a youth chastity talk listening to someone ask "How far is too far" again. As it turned out I don't actually think she has stalked anyone, but it takes a brave soul to ask that kind of question. The class wrapped up with a disturbing story about some girl who was followed in her car for miles, called 911, they arrested the guy and found a rope, sledge hammer, knife, and blankets in his trunk, along with quite a stash of Asian porn (the woman he was following was Asian). They said the poor girl was so distraught that they never even told her what they had found in his trunk. The perp offed himself a few months later. Actually there were quite a few disturbing stalker stories shared tonight, and I must admit that it's made me a bit skiddish being alone in the house tonight. Living with Lynn is a bit like living alone. I think she's spent a grand total of three nights here since I moved in. :(
