Charley Horse
I got a Charley Horse in the middle of the night last night that probably could have set a world record for it's longevity. I woke up with that feeling like someone has just shoved a knife into my leg, only it wasn't in my calf, it was in my shin. I got up to stretch it out, and for some weird reason, it made it worse, in fact, it made it a LOT worse. I could hardly even walk. I spent what seemed like forever hobbling around the house vainly trying to get it to loosen up. I blame the fact that I started to question whether or not my leg was ever going to be normal again on the hour and the fact that I could actually see a big lump on my leg where the muscle was all knotted up. I tried to rub it out, but it hurt too much to be very aggressive about it. Having never dealt with such an issue before I didn't have the faintest idea what to do about it. So I just kept limping around the house, in the middle of the night, which was completely ineffective. Finally I decided to tried sticking it under the bathtub faucet and running hot water over it, which thankfully loosened things up enough that I could stretch it out after that. My leg is still a little sore from last night's incident, and I need to figure out what it is that I'm supposed to eat to keep this from happening again. (Bananas sounds right, but I'm not certain.) I think my muscle was seized up like that for close to an hour, and it's an experience that I hope to never repeat.

Oh my ... not fun, I used to get them while training in open water swims. Check out this site - http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/sprainsstrains/a/legcramp.htm
That is not fun. I use to get them a lot but I haven't lately. But I never experienced anything like that. I always could get it to feel better by walking around. I hope you don't have to go through that again.
