Testing

Meredith called me the other day and asked me if I'd like to sign up to go work as a proctor for the cset, and cbest tests (credentialling exams for California teachers). Easy money, and it's one Saturday of my life, so I figured why not. We went to the training Thursday night and they told us that it's actually not one Saturday of my life, they want multiple Saturdays of my life. I have to admit that does sort of bug me since I already volunteer one Saturday a month in San Diego. Still, there's that whole easy money part, so I decided to roll with it.

There was a married couple at the training. I haven't quite decided if they had some kind of hearing problem, or were just idiots. Several times during the training I would make a comment, only to have either the husband or wife of this couple parrot that comment back to me, as though it was original material. The first time it happened I just assumed that the husband had not been paying attention. After it had happened three or four times though, I had to stop and wonder what exactly was going on with them.

On Saturday we actually showed up to proctor the test. It was, as expected, easy money. It really just consisted of passing out the tests, reading a page of instructions, and then sitting there staring at test takers for the next few hours. The test techinically ends after 5 hours. However, most people do not require the entire five hours to complete taking their test. After three hours I was down to three testers. After four hours I was down to the final two. I was starting to get very anxious for them to finish up so that I could go home. That's when I looked over at one of the test takers and realized that she was napping over there at her desk. I wanted to go over and joggle the table to wake her up. Fortunately it didn't come to that and after a few minutes she came around on her own. Who sleeps in the middle of a test?
